A lack of confidence has been the primary cause in Fremantle’s drop in form, according to David Mundy.
The Fremantle legend has three games and potentially finals left before he retires, and went on record in yesterday’s media conference saying he was targeting six more wins to finish his 19-year career on a high.
But for that to happen, Fremantle need to find a way to improve after one draw and two disappointing losses in the past three rounds.
Despite sliding to sixth on the ladder, Fremantle could get themselves back in the reckoning for a top four place with a win against the Western Bulldogs this Saturday at Marvel Stadium.
The 10th placed Bulldogs are also hungry for a win as they battle to shore up a finals place.
Speaking on Fox Footy’s ‘On the Couch’, Mundy was asked about Freo’s issues with moving the ball from end to end.
“I think those questions are warranted and justified with our performances over the past few weeks in particular,”: Mundy said.
"Like a lot of other teams, we're scratching away and trying to find our best mix and our best football. We spoke about it (on Monday) morning.
“We feel like a large part of that is having more confidence in ourselves to attack the game and take it on. We’re playing a little bit too safe at the moment and trying to protect the ball a little bit.
“We’re in a position we haven’t been in for a little while, where all of a sudden we have something to lose. I think most of our issues and our problems at the moment are to do with mindset and I think they’re really easily rectified.”
Mundy said one of his proudest achievements was playing in every Fremantle players’ 200th milestone game.
That group of 10 players is set to extend to 11 in round 23 with Michael Walters scheduled to play his 200th game when Freo take on GWS.
“That’s something I’m really proud of to be honest. I can remember them all,” Mundy said.
“Hopefully we’ll have another one with Michael Walters approaching that mark really quickly.
“I’ve also worn every iteration of the Fremantle Football Club jumper now with the 3D anchor on the weekend, there were 32 of those. It just speaks to the longevity and part of Fremantle’s history that I’ve been a part of.”
