Fremantle star Nat Fyfe was absent during the open portion of Fremantle's light recovery session on Wednesday and still needs to train on Thursday to be passed fit for Saturday's qualifying final.

The majority of the senior squad were out there for some light handball drills and goalkicking following a morning swim at the beach on a glorious 30-degree day in Perth.

Fyfe, Garrick Ibbotson and Luke McPharlin were the notable senior players not to appear, although it was not a structured session as most of the senior coaching staff were also absent.

Fyfe has not played since round 21 due to inflammation of the left fibula and he has missed four of the last six matches.

Coach Ross Lyon said on Monday that Fyfe felt "a million dollars" but he will still need to pass a fitness test on Thursday to be declared fit to take on the Sydney Swans on Saturday.

Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Walters were both out there working on their set-shot goalkicking.

Walters is a certainty to return after missing the last two weeks with calf soreness, but there are no guarantees on Ballantyne, who has missed the past seven matches following surgery to repair a torn pec muscle.

Aaron Sandilands and Zac Clarke worked with ruck coach Simon Eastaugh on some stationary tap work.

Clarke appears the most likely to partner Sandilands after Jon Griffin was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Veteran tagger Ryan Crowley was also out on the track and continues to train hard to make himself available for selection if Fremantle progress to the preliminary final.

Crowley's 12-month suspension for a doping violation ends on September 25 and he has been training diligently at the club since the end of July.
