Fremantle young gun Mikayla Morrison will miss the remainder of the 2022 NAB AFLW season after scans confirmed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.
The small forward sustained the injury at Tuesday night’s training session.
Morrison had played four games since her debut against the Western Bulldogs earlier this season, highlighted by a three-goal performance against Carlton in round six which earnt her a NAB Rising Star nomination.
The 20-year-old was due to play her first AFLW match at Optus Stadium when Freo take on Melbourne this Saturday afternoon.
A decision on when surgery will take place is yet to be made.
Head of Football Operations and Performance Bob Murphy said the news was clearly devastating to receive.
“It’s incredibly disappointing that Mikayla will miss the rest of the season, after bursting onto the AFLW scene," Murphy said.
“Mikayla was looking forward to finishing off the year strongly as we approach the upcoming AFLW finals series.
“We will make a decision in due course on when Mikayla will undertake surgery and begin her rehabilitation process.
“The entire Club will wrap our arms around Mikayla and support her through this time.”
