Fremantle enter this year’s NAB AFL National Draft with two top 10 selections, picks six and eight, but it’s Freo’s pick 19 that carries potentially the most intrigue.
Pick 19 is the first selection of the second round, and the first selection on the second day of the draft.
It means clubs can take stock after watching the first day of the draft unfold, and reassess which players are still on the table.
Fremantle secured pick 19 from Gold Coast in the recent Continental Tyres Trade Period, as part of the deal that saw midfielder Will Brodie land at Freo.
Fremantle’s head of player personnel David Walls said how the Club intends to use pick 19 will be largely dictated by how things play out on the first day of drafting.
“We’ll see which players are still available from our draft order after the first day of the draft,” Walls said.
“That is probably what dictates (what we do with pick 19) the most to us, is who has gone beforehand on the first night.
“Every club starts seeing it differently, particularly this year more so than ever with the way the season has been so stop and start (particularly in Victoria).”
See the final draft order here for every club
Walls said the following 24 hours from the completion of round one selections, will see Freo’s recruiting team hold conversations with every club for potential offers.
“We’ll see who remains on the table, and then we have 24 hours to take offers,” Walls said.
“We will meet every club at Marvel Stadium after the first night of the draft and then we will be on the phone the whole of the next day to clubs as well.
“We’d then see if an offer came that is worth more than what is left in our draft order.”
With the final order confirmed, Fremantle will take picks six, eight, 19, 60, 68 and 80 into next week’s draft.
