The AFL Match Review Panel has handed Matthew Pavlich a four-game suspension, which can be reduced to three with an earlyplea, for a third-quarter incident in Sunday’s Carlton Mid Derby involving West Coast’s Mitch Brown.

The Fremantle captain was charged with a level three bumping or making forceful contact from front-on to an opponent with his head over theball.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Eagles, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This resulted in a total of six activation points, and a classification of a level three offence, drawing 400 demerit points and a four-match sanction.

Pavlich had 93.75 demerit points carried over from within the past 12 months after accepting a reprimand for a high hit against the same player in last year’s Carlton Mid Derby, increasing the penalty to 493.75 points and a four-match sanction.

An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 370.31 points and a three-match sanction.

Fremantle has until Tuesday 9.00am (WST) to decide if it will accept or challenge the decision.

If Pavlich is rubbed out, he will miss Sunday crucial clash with sixth-placed Richmond at the MCG and games against Adelaide at Patersons Stadium and Carlton at Etihad Stadium.

West Coast Andrew Embley, who was reported for a high hit that resulted in Clancee Pearce being subbed out of the game, was offered a two-game suspension with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from Fremantle, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This was a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 325demerit points and a three-match sanction.

Embley has an existing bad record of 68.75 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 393.85 points and a three-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 295.31 points and a two-match sanction.
