DOB: 23/8/2003
POSITION: Forward
HEIGHT: 158cm
DRAFTED FROM: South Fremantle
Makaela Tuhakaraina has come a long way in her short time playing football since switching from rugby.
The 2021 season was her first year in the pathway after playing one year of local footy in 2020.
Tuhakaraina boasts both speed and agility as a small forward, with impressive results at the WA AFLW Draft Combine.
Her ability to win the ball at ground level was a standout at the 2021 NAB AFLW Championships and she ranked in the top 15 for inside 50s.
Trent Cooper’s comments
Makaela has come from a rugby background and has only had one year in the talent pathway.
She has exceptional speed, sideways movement and her tackling could make her one of the elite pressure players at AFLW level in coming years.
She has the potential to make a real impact as a small forward in the coming seasons and also to move into the midfield as she builds her tank.
