Seven Fremantle players are in line for selection for Sunday’s clash with Sydney at Metricon Stadium.
Key forward Matt Taberner and emerging defender Hayden Young headline the group, with the duo looking to make their returns from a calf and hamstring injury respectively.
They could be joined by Lloyd Meek, Mitch Crowden, Connor Blakely and potential debutant Nathan O’Driscoll.
Brandon Walker, the medical sub against Geelong, is also technically an in after being named in the extended squad.
They are set to replace Rory Lobb (ankle), Sam Switkowski (hamstring) and Blake Acres (omitted), with Switkowski coming out of the team after sustaining the injury at training on Thursday.
Young last played for Fremantle in round three against Carlton and he was one of Peel’s best at the weekend against Claremont with 23 disposals and six marks.
Taberner has played just one game since Fremantle last faced Sydney in round 10, missing time with an ankle and calf injury on either side of his round 15 appearance against Collingwood.
Senior coach Justin Longmuir said in a media conference on Thursday that Taberner was fit to make his retun.
“He’s fit and he’ll play at some level this week. He’s had an interrupted, probably the last eight weeks. Against Sydney in round 10, he hurt his ankle and he’s been interrupted since,” Longmuir said.
“He would be a good replacement for ‘Lobby’, who will miss this week, so hopefully he’s in a good frame of mind and feels confident. We’ll have to have a chat after training about that decision.
“(His selection is) based on how confident he feels, not his body as his body should be right to go if he gets through training, it’s more on his craft and how confident he is to get out there and mix it with a really good side.”
The game will be David Mundy's 350th in the AFL and bounce down for the clash is at 12.30pm EST (10.30am WST).
