Sean Darcy is doing more than just rack up hitouts in 2021.
The ruckman has seen a significant uptick in an underrated stat for ruckmen, hitouts to advantage.
Of the AFL’s primary ruckmen, Darcy ranks fourth for hitouts to advantage, with 118 this season.
He is able to record a hitout to advantage in 18.8 per cent of ruck contests, compared to 11.7 per cent in his debut season.
In the latest episode of Old Bull, Young Buck, co-host David Mundy credited Darcy for his own impressive form in 2021.
“A lot goes into (a stoppage),” Mundy said.
“It’s around how the games been going, how ‘Swaggy’ (Darcy) is jumping, how we’re executing as mids.
“Sean’s progress around the ground and in the contest has been great. It’s been nice to be a beneficiary of that, thank you sir.”
More: Darcy's questionable celebration
Darcy said Mundy was a presence he could trust in the contest.
“You have to see early in the game where the space is. David is quite a bigger mid, especially the attacking side of the contest,” Darcy said.
“If you can put it to him, he’s usually gets his hands on it.”
Mundy said he was seeing Darcy develop into a worthy successor to mentor Aaron Sandilands.
“Sean is certainly getting there,” Mundy said.
“Spide’ is unbelievable good. Seany is certainly developing his craft and growing in a very good way.”
