Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe will continue his tradition of wearing specially painted boots for Sir Doug Nicholls Round with these stunning boots designed and painted by artist Tammy Hayden.
Tammy, the sister of Roger Hayden, offered to paint Fyfe’s boots for this year and based her design on Fyfe’s family, his hometown of Lake Grace and his role as captain of Fremantle.
Below is the explanation of the design from Tammy Hayden herself.
The design on the boots represent your Home, Family and the Freo Family.
HOME
Lake Grace consists of two bodies of water, as you can see on both sides of the boots. The earthy colours represent Nyaki, Nyaki Boodjar, the Noongar Country where Lake Grace is situated.
FAMILY
The half circle at the toe is your family – Mum, Dad, Brother Sister and Yourself.
FREO FAMILY
The purple represents the Fremantle Dockers with the large meeting circle representing the players taking the field with the two small green symbols our Leaders – Yourself and Sonny (Indigenous Leader) standing together.
The boomerangs represent our past and present Indigenous players with the seven current players and the seven pars players shown on our 2021 Indigenous jumper design. The large boomerang represents yourself.
And lastly the number 19, situated on one of the boomerangs, is in memory of past player Gary Daywarru Dhurrkay.
