Aboriginal and Torres Strait footballers have played a pivotal role in the history of the Fremantle Dockers, playing more games than any other AFL/VFL team and helping to shape the Club’s identity over the past 27 years.
To honour this, Freo have looked into ways to further acknowledge this proud aspect of the Club’s history by incorporating Indigenous elements into the Club’s FOREVER FREO logo.
The announcement comes ahead of Reconciliation Week, running from 27 May and 3 June, as well as the AFL's Sir Doug Nicholls Round, where Fremantle will wear its new Indigenous jumper against Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs.
The new logo design highlights the three chevrons that form the V in FOREVER. The chevrons have been altered slightly to resemble a boomerang and the pattern inside the chevrons call back to Fremantle’s first Indigenous jumper - designed by Roger Hayden and Richard Walley and first worn in 2014.
The idea was first brought forward by a member at the Members Advisory Forum in November 2020 and will be applied across the Club’s digital channels from Sir Doug Nicholls Round onwards.
The design process was done in conjunction with Fremantle’s ‘Stretch’ RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan), which was developed in assistance with the Club’s Indigenous program partner, Woodside.
