Brennan Cox would relish the opportunity to play on star Sydney forward Lance Franklin when Fremantle take on the Swans on Saturday night at Optus Stadium.
Cox played on Franklin once previously in his debut season in 2017. It will be the first time the 305-game player will feature in a game against Freo since 2018.
Despite his eagerness for the challenge, Cox said he may not get the task.
“I would love the opportunity to play on him. I played on him in my first year when I went back for about a half,” Cox told 6PR Sportsday.
“I’m not sure I’ll get the job, maybe Griff (Griffin Logue) will go to him, but we’ll talk about that later in the week.”
Whoever gets the task, Cox said he and Logue are growing their chemistry as a backline duo.
They’re also hoping for some extra help with All Australian Luke Ryan a chance to make his return from a calf injury.
“Me and Griff had only played a couple games together (in the backline) before this year,” Cox said.
“We’re starting to really gel together and get that chemistry going. We’re building on it each game.
“Sydney’s a very good team. They play pretty similar to Essendon and hopefully we get Luke back this week, which will be a nice handy in. Over here, we’ll have the fans' support so we can hopefully get the job done.”
The game will see Sean Darcy play his 50th game with Sportsday co-host Paul Hasleby predicting the ruckman will become a star of the game.
Cox said he had been impressed with the work Darcy put in behind the scenes since they were both drafted in 2016.
“He’s had a horror run with injuries but when he was injured, no-one was working harder than him,” Cox said.
“He was doing extra cross training sessions and extra running and he goes for big long walks.
“He’s definitely put in the work and it’s good to see it pay off.”
