After suffering significant damage to the posterolateral corner in his knee less than six weeks ago, Fremantle forward Rory Lobb is firming for a return to the side this Sunday in Fremantle’s round five clash with Adelaide.

Speaking at a media conference this morning, Matthew Taberner said the inclusion of Lobb (if selected) would provide a damaging asset for team alongside himself, Sean Darcy and recent debutant Josh Treacy.

“(Lobb) is a damaging forward, he plays time in the ruck and can really work his opponent over, so it would be exciting to have them all in the team,” Taberner said.

“Looking to this week, we’ve got Sean Darcy who played a really good game and played predominantly forward but with him going back into the ruck and allowing Rory to come back in will be a really scary proposition I think.”

Leading into the season Fremantle were starved of forward options mostly due to injury, but Taberner said he will be thankful for the pressure being lifted off him with Lobb back in the line-up.

“If you look back a month ago, we were really lacking another tall forward at the time with injuries and Josh having a suspension, so it takes a lot of pressure off running wise and the time I have to spend on the ground as well,” Taberner said

“I will be really thankful for that and it just means you can have a bit more energy at the contests and explosiveness.”

“We’ve worked together, and we’ll try and isolate and allow each other some space, but there will be times that Rory goes into the ruck and having Josh be able to play that other Tall forward role as well is really helpful.”

Lobb and Taberner played 16 of a possible 17 games together last season, combining for a total of 39 goals in the shortened season.

Fremantle take on Adelaide this Sunday 18 April at Adelaide Oval, bounce down is at 11.10am WST and will be broadcast live on Fox Footy and Kayo.
