After just three AFL games, young Fremantle defender Heath Chapman has done enough to show his coach Justin Longmuir that he has what it takes at the top level.
 
Chapman looked clean with the ball against Hawthorn finishing with 18 disposals (at 83% efficiency), seven intercept possessions, four marks and four score involvements.
 
The 18-year-old also slotted his first AFL goal just moments before three-quarter-time.
 
An infringement on skipper Nat Fyfe by Hawthorn’s Jack Scrimshaw led to a 50-metre penalty, giving Chapman a shot on goal from the top of the goal square.

However, it was an action late in the match at the opposite end of the ground that left Longmuir impressed.

“He’s got a mature head on him, he is really calm under pressure and I just love his competitiveness,” Longmuir told 6PR Sportsday.
 
“I think there was a piece of play with 30 seconds to go on the clock and it looked like (the Hawks) were going to kick a goal.
 
“It was really late in the game…and Heath went full chested to smother (the ball) and managed to get us a stoppage.
 
“That just epitomises his competitiveness and he has brought that all pre-season.”

Longmuir said Chapman had made the most of his opportunity after initially benefiting from Freo’s injury toll earlier in the season.
 
“With injuries comes opportunity and he has grabbed it with both hands,” Longmuir said.
 
“It looks like we have got a player there, that is a bonus out of the injury toll earlier in the season.”
