Fremantle were taught a lesson by an impressive Carlton outfit in a 45-point loss at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Outside of an early game flurry that saw Freo take a nine-point lead, Fremantle failed to threaten the Blues who ran rampant on the quick Marvel Stadium surface.

The Blues dominated the uncontested ball 279 to 187 and marks 117 to 78.

From half way through the first term to late in the second, the Blues kicked seven consecutive goals with Harry McKay kicking four of his seven goals for the day during the run.

While acting captain David Mundy (16 disposals) was not as influential as his 35 disposals performance in round two, he toiled the hardest in the midfield with a career-high 11 tackles in his 335th game.

ALL THE MOMENTS

Playing his second AFL game, Heath Chapman gave Freo fans some consolation with an impressive 18 disposals and six tackles at half back.

In his return from a hamstring injury, Michael Walters showed promise with two goals in his first game of the season.

Without captain Nat Fyfe, young midfield trio Caleb Serong (22 disposals), Andrew Brayshaw (19) and Adam Cerra (19) were outmatched by the Carlton mids Sam Walsh (37 disposals) and Patrick Cripps (34).

Freo were also left to count the cost on the injury front with defender Hayden Young replaced by medical sub Liam Henry at half time due to a hamstring injury.

Forward Lachie Schultz did not take part in the final term after coming off with concussion after sustaining a head knock in the third term.

With a 1-2 record, Freo will look to bounce back against Hawthorn at Optus Stadium on Sunday 11 April.
