Football analyst Mark Robinson has aptly named David Mundy his ‘Monday Hero’ following the midfielder’s best on ground efforts in Fremantle’s 31-point win against GWS on Sunday at Optus Stadium.

The 35-year-old ‘hit his age’ with 35 disposals as well as six clearances and five tackles as he continues to perform at his elite best in his 17th AFL season.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s AFL360, Robinson said he honestly thought Mundy’s career was nearing its end two years ago.

“I had to check during the last quarter how old he was, I thought he was 34 but he’s actually 35,” Robinson said on AFL360.

“I thought David Mundy was going out the door at about 33, a year and a half ago. He was moved to half forward and he was told to survive there.

“They were bringing kids into the middle (now) Fyfe (has gone) out and Mundy’s gone back in.”

Robinson said Mundy’s skills by foot made him stand out above everyone else.

“All the commentators and everyone watching the game, we can see that the beautiful kicks, the people who can lob the kicks into space and hit targets, they’re going to thrive and he’s a gorgeous kick,” Robinson said.

“He’s tough and everyone is talking about (Adam) Cerra and (Andrew) Brayshaw and (Caleb) Serong but the old boy, he led the way (on Sunday) he was fantastic.”
