Star young midfielder Adam Cerra feels there is no need to rush his contract talks with Fremantle as he puts his focus into performing on the field, particularly in Sunday’s first home game of the season against GWS at Optus Stadium.
Cerra, who is in the final year of his current deal with the club, spoke about his excitement of being a part of Freo’s young list.
“The young team we’ve got and the stars we have in the team is really exciting. This year we’re pushing for finals and the team we have with Heath Chapman, Hayden Young, guys we’re just seeing now coming are through, I think our future is really exciting here,” Cerra said.
“At the moment I’m in no rush with (the contract). My focus right now is on this Sunday. That will be dealt with in time and I’ll get to that later down the track.
“We’re in the season now and I’m keeping my focuses really short term at the moment and week to week. When I’m ready to sit down and have that chat, I’ll know when that time is.”

The no.5 pick in the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft, Cerra said he’s loved playing alongside fellow top five pick Andrew Brayshaw, who signed a four-year deal during the pre-season.
“Andy is my best mate at the club. We came in together and we’ve known each other for a while,” Cerra said.
“I like playing alongside him and I think he does as well.”

Cerra said he was excited to return to Optus Stadium against the Giants as Freo play there for the first time in seven months.
“It’s always great playing at home. We’re excited to get the Purple Army out there again and play in front of them,” Cerra said.
“That will be great. (They) give us confidence and we’re looking to get the job done for them.”
