Fremantle forward Roxy Roux seems at home on the RAC Derby big stage, replicating last year’s two goal performance against West Coast at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Roux kicked two goals while gathering 13 disposals (including 12 kicks), seven marks and 79 AFL Fantasy points to finish amongst Freo’s best in the clash.
The exciting forward said it was wonderful to have such a strong show of support in the Optus Stadium stands.
“It was fantastic to have the crowd around us and the Freo boys on the sidelines as well,” Roux said.
“The RAC Derby is something that we all look forward to and are all so pumped about.
“It was really exciting to have my family here today and I know they all showed up because it’s a big game for us…I’m proud to have that support by my side.”
Roux gave her thoughts on some of the standouts against the Eagles including Gemma Houghton (five goals, 15 disposals), Sabreena Duffy (three goals, 15 disposals) and best on ground medallist Kiara Bowers.
GEMMA HOUGHTON
“Every single week she just plays so awesome,” Roux said.
“She goes for the ball full pelt and doesn’t give up in any sort of contest, she just works really hard.”
KIARA BOWERS
“She is excellent obviously every single week and she puts in the highest tackle count on the ground,” Roux said.
“I was actually having a post-match interview (on ground) at the time and I turned around and she had the medal already!
“I was not even surprised…because it’s obviously got to be her, a three peat, well done Kiara!”
SABREENA DUFFY
“Sabs just really committed herself to be there at the feet of every contest,” Roux said.
“It shows that she has put in so much hard work to be here with us and the team.
“I’m just really proud of Sabs and all the effort she puts in.”
FREO’S BACK SIX
“They were excellent, and that one (Eagles) goal was just a little mistake, but the backline picked it back up straight away,” Roux said.
“They let no other goals go through, it was just excellent work from all of them.
“Janelle Cuthbertson, Laura Pugh, Philipa Seth, Emma O’Driscoll … all of them are just excellent in that back half.”
HER OWN GAME
“It was lots of fun, I knew I just had to wait and be patient and keep putting the work in,” Roux said.
“It was really about the team delivering it around me and we just worked really hard.
“I was just grateful to have that opportunity in front of the crowd.”
