Fremantle’s dynamic duo of Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Walters played their first game together since round three this season, combining for six goals against the Brisbane Lions.
Ballantyne returned to the line-up after missing last weekend’s win over Hawthorn with a hamstring injury.
Both Ballantyne and Walters bagged three goals each in the 58-point victory.
“It’s great to have him (Walters) back, everyone knows how good he is,” Ballantyne told Fox Footy.
“He can kick a goal from just about anywhere.
“Hayden Crozier played really well too, his pressure is really good.
“It’s looking good in the small boys department.”
The contest at the Gabba was Danyle Pearce’s 200th AFL game and the midfielder says the team is slowly returning to its best.
Rd 22: Super snap from milestone man
“The last couple of weeks have been really good,” Pearce told Fox Footy.
“We’re trying to bring that ‘up-tempo’ back and kick as many goals as we can and also limit the other team.
“We had a few outs but the people who came in stood up and gave plenty of effort and we came through with the win.”
The result moves Fremantle to fourth on the AFL ladder, needing a win in the round 23 match against fifth-placed Port Adelaide to cement a top-four finish.
“We’re just focusing on trying to make the top four and get the double chance,” Pearce said.
“So we’ve got a huge game next week and we have to be ready for that.”
