It’s safe to say Taylin Duman won’t forget his first Father’s Day as a dad.
He's one of four Freo dads celebrating the day from the Cairns hub, alongside David Mundy, Michael Walters and Nathan Wilson.
There won’t be too much Duman, seven-month old daughter Ayla and partner Claudia can do under the AFL’s Covid-protocols in the hub but Duman is still confident of a special day.
“Maybe I get a sleep in! That would be nice if Ayla can give me that. I’m not too sure what we’ll do, I’m sure Claudia has something planned for me.
“I’m looking forward to it, it’s a special day.”
After leaving his family in Perth for Freo’s first hub, Duman said his second hub experience feels more like home with Ayla and Claudia by his side.
“It’s great having them up here and trying to make it as much like home as possible, Duman said.
“I also hope it helps my footy as it can be similar to what it’s like back in Perth. I’m enjoying it.
“We’re having a good time in Cairns, she’s been in the water for the first time, which was really good. It’s been really fun having them up here.”
Duman has been pleasantly surprised with how baby Ayla has won over her teammates, who Duman calls her ’40 uncles’.
“It’s great how good the boys are, especially as we have such a young group,” Duman said.
“Having babies around could be a little bit awkward but the boys have been super with it. She’s been really cheeky with it all and it’s really fun to see her with them.”
Having a baby girl has helped give Duman a new perspective around the high-pressure AFL environment.
“It can be difficult at times but at the end of the day, family comes first and everyone says once you have your kids you get a new perspective on footy and life,” Duman said.
“It’s good to have that good life balance. It can help my footy I reckon this year.”
