We understand, it’s hard to compete with a house or a new Toyota.

But the $12,000 The Good Grocer voucher up for grabs in Fremantle’s Forever Mega Draw has to be one of the best ‘secondary’ prizes imaginable.

And a visit to The Good Grocer in South Perth shows that there is plenty of Freo love behind this generous donation.

Store manager Brittany Elliot is as diehard as they come with her Freo Dockers and she said she was proud that her company was behind the team.

“It’s great that The Good Grocer wanted to help out the Fremantle Dockers in this tough year.

“We at The Good Grocer have always been active in supporting our local community and this is a great way for us to be involved.”

When it comes to her favourite Freo player, Brittany is proud to say she was on the Luke Ryan bandwagon early.

“I love Luke Ryan! He’s just so good, without him we would be struggling,” Brittany said.

“He’s just holding the whole backline together and I just can’t wait for Alex Pearce and Joel Hamling to come back in, and Hayden Young obviously. I just can’t wait until everyone is fit again.”

“For some reason my favourite Freo players have always been the defenders. When I first started watching Freo I loved Luke McPharlin. He was my number one, he was just so solid down back all the time.

“But, obviously Matthew Pavlich and David Mundy are also up there.”

Brittany only discovered football when she was 10 after her family moved to Australia. While her father tried hard to make her a Carlton fan, she had other ideas.

“We lived in Thailand and Papua New Guinea, so I had no idea what AFL was,” Brittany said.

“I just remember my brother was playing Auskick. We went to our first game because he was playing at half time and it was Fremantle against Port Adelaide at the WACA in the early 2000s.

“Fremantle won the game and ever since then I’ve been a Freo fan. Dad tried to push my brother and I to Carlton but we were just besotted with Freo.”

As well as being a footy fan, Brittany loved to play the game but gave it up soon after high school after her third ACL injury.

“You can really relate to the players and after three knee reconstructions, I was done,” Brittany said.

She said it gave her an appreciation of what the players go through with their injury rehabilitation and it also gave her respect for the Freo players who have had long and successful careers.

“When I was at Ballantyne and Sandi’s last game, except for Mundy, it felt like the last of the old guard trucking off. I actually got a bit teary at that, especially when Sandi chaired off Ballas.”

The winner of The Good Grocer prize will win a $1000 voucher to spend each month over 12 months and Brittany gave her expert advice on how to get the most out of the prize.

“I would go straight to the cheese section and buy all the premium cheeses, they are just amazing. I would then go over to The Wine Box and talk to our liquor manager Ruth, who’s super knowledgeable on all wines and gins, and just pick out what would go best with my cheeses,” Brittany said.

“Also our gourmet dinners are delicious, so I would go over to our deli and serve up a whole smorgasbord for a fancy dinner. That would be perfect.”

As well as The Good Grocer voucher there is a $700,000 ‘Rosewood’ display home by Dale Alcock homes, located in Apsley Estate, and a brand-new Toyota Yaris Ascent Auto valued at $17,990 driveaway proudly supplied by Maddington Toyota and Canning Vale Toyota up for grabs in the Forever Mega Draw prize pool.

You can also win a Willie Creek Necklace Strand of South Sea Cultured Pearls necklace valued at almost $16,000 or a coaches’ box experience.
