Michael Walters couldn’t be prouder of young forward Liam Henry, who will make his debut in Sir Doug Nicholls Round on Saturday night against Sydney.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s AFL360 program on Thursday night, Walters said it was fitting that Henry would play his first AFL game wearing the Indigenous jumper, which has been designed by past player Antoni Grover and his sisters Nicole and Alicia.

Walters said the 18-year-old's emergence on the AFL stage would be a big deal for his family in Derby and the community up north.

“For Liam to play his first game in Indigenous round is massive, it’s an opportunity for him to go out there and showcase his talent,” Walters said.

“A lot of hard work went into it, he dislocated his knee cap last year in one of the school games (for Christchurch), so for him to come to the footy club, work on his body, he put a couple of kilos on in muscle but also his rehabilitation on that leg, has been second to none.

“It’s just an unbelievable feeling for someone like him to come from up north and come to the city of Perth and represent his family from up there, as well as his culture in Indigenous round, that’s massive”
