Senior coach Justin Longmuir hopes his players have learnt the hard way in the aftermath of Freo’s four-point loss to Carlton in round 12.
Freo had multiple opportunities to ice the game before Carlton overcame the odds to win via Jack Newnes’s after-the-siren winner.
“We got a bit wrong in those last couple of minutes with a couple of our defensive 50 exits, to not getting the ball over the boundary in the right manner via Tabs (Matthew Taberner),” Longmuir told Seven news.
“There’s plenty to work on and I think three weeks ago against Collingwood, in a really tight game, we were able to execute those moments really well.
“We just didn’t quite get it right in a few occasions on the weekend.
“We’ll learn from it and get better and, hopefully, when we’re in that situation again we will handle it and get the win.”
While the review of the loss to Carlton was important Longmuir said the focus will turn quickly to Sydney, who Freo play this Saturday night at Optus Stadium.
“It takes a little while to get over a game like that,” Longmuir said.
“We reviewed it strongly with the players and will try to get thinking about (Sydney) today.
“Hopefully, they’ve all moved on now and learnt from it and we can focus on Sydney.”
