Fremantle’s round 13 fixture has been locked in, taking on Sydney at Optus Stadium on Saturday 22 August.
The game will be played as part of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, which highlights Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contributions to the game of Australian football.
Both Fremantle and Sydney will wear their Indigenous jumpers in the clash, with Fremantle to wear a new design for 2020.
The jumper has been designed by one of Fremantle’s great Indigenous past players and will be revealed in the coming weeks on fremantlefc.com.au.
The Saturday night fixture will be the first time the two teams meet since Freo won a one-point thriller in 2019, which was also played on a Saturday night at Optus Stadium.
A past player for the Swans, Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick was excited to see Fremantle take on Sydney in Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
“Fremantle is a club that prides itself on its Indigenous players, past and present, and it’s only fitting that we get the chance to play Sydney in Sir Doug Nicholls Round, who are another club that has had significant contributions from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island players,” Garlick said.
“It’s only fitting that the clash will be played under lights on a Saturday at Optus Stadium and I know the Fremantle fans will be excited for the occasion and come out in full support.
“It will be the third straight week that Freo play a blockbuster night game at Optus Stadium, following our Monday night clash against Hawthorn in round 11 and Saturday night game with Carlton in round 12.”
With GWS joining Sydney in the WA hub, Fremantle are most likely to play the Giants in round 14 at Optus Stadium, with the date and time yet to be confirmed.
