Jesse Crichton’s hard work in the gym over the last six weeks has paid off, with the WAFL player of the round award.

Assistant and senior development coach Simon Lloyd said that Crichton’s focus has been on building his body up.

‘The focus for Jesse has been putting on size in the last six weeks, and he has embraced that in regards to his diet and weight program with our conditioning staff,” Lloyd said.

“To look at him now, and on the scales, you can see he has put on weight and that was his main focus.

“Overall he showed hard burst run, his ball use was good and he beat his tag. He played well on the weekend.”

Lloyd shared his notes on all Freo players playing in the WAFL

Jesse Crichton (PT) 17 disposals (9 kicks, 8 handballs) 4 marks, 3 goals

Jesse played as a high forward and also on the wing. We were happy that Jesse beat his tag and showed a great competitive sprit. He showed his speed on the release and he ran hard offensively from up the ground to the goal square and that was a standout. He positioned really well to receive handballs and make contests. He had more time with the ball than anyone else on the ground.

Tom Sheridan (PT) 13 disposals (7 kicks, 6 handballs) 5 marks
Tom played as an inside midfielder. His attitude was first class. Whilst he didn’t win a lot of the ball, his effort and team orientation to cover the most dangerous player, to tackle, to get close and run hard, was noticeable. He made some good decisions with the ball that put his teammates into space.

Jordan Wilson King (SF Res) 19 disposals (15 kicks, 4 handballs) 4 marks, 1 goal
Jordan played as an inside midfielder. His effort was inconsistent in the first half. By the second half his effort improved where he worked harder around the ground and showed some aggression around contests and to win his own ball.

Jay van Berlo (WP) 20 disposals (13 kicks, 7 handballs) 5 marks

Jay played as an inside midfielder on Hams. He played a traditional run with role in the third quarter with Hams and limited him to three touches. He also had stints on the wing. Jay worked hard on the turnover to spread and provided an option. He showed some really good bodywork around stoppages to generate separation.

Jayden Pitt (EP Res) 20 disposals (17 kicks, 3 handballs) 5 marks

Jayden played as an inside mid all day in his first game back after six weeks out. He showed his use was very good. The real positive for us was that he got his hands to three first possessions and cleared the ball through quick feet in the second half. After quarter time he worked really hard to get to more contests. After six weeks off, he worked hard throughout the day with his running output.

Sam Menegola (EF) 20 disposals (12 kicks, 8 handballs) 7 marks

Sam played a run with role on Freddie Clutterbuck on the wing for most of the first half and then went head to head after that. His first quarter was very good as he denied his opponent the ball, and was also able to get a fair bit of it himself through hard goal side run. He also defended very well and showed some really good defensive run. In one passage of play he cut off a defensive 50 entry with some strong courage. Overall, he demonstrated a valuable contrition in a strong win by the Sharks

Antoni Grover (S) 9 disposals (5 kicks, 4 handballs)

Antoni played key back. His effort was solid in all areas of his defensive game. He out-bodied opponents in marking contests, showed a great effort to compete and positioned really well according to where the ball was.

Jack Anthony (S) 20 disposals (17 kicks, 3 handballs) 10 marks, 4 goals
Jack played as a key forward with a mixture of playing high and also close to goals. Jack worked very hard on the lead and was rewarded with 10 marks. He looked to give off to his teammates and get them involved. He finished with four goals and it was a solid game for Jack.

Alex Silvagni (C) 13 disposals (9 kicks, 4 handballs) 4 marks
Alex was very good in one-on-one marking contests in contested situations. He constantly played the percentages and spoiled well. He played a negating influence on Tim Geappen, who didn’t get a lot of the football on Alex. We were very pleased with his attack on the ball both in the air and at ground level. He showed good defensive positioning to help out teammates and affect the contest. It was a solid performance from Alex.
