FREMANTLE coach Ross Lyon says he has no interest in the varied finals scenarios that could eventuate as a result of his team's performance against Melbourne on Saturday night.

Because Fremantle plays after other results have been determined, the club will know how the final margin against the Demons will influence its ladder position.

Freo could finish as high as sixth and host a final in week one, or it could finish as low as eighth, opening the door to a possible Derby elimination final if West Coast loses to Hawthorn on Friday night.

Fremantle could also finish seventh and be forced to travel in week one of the finals to face Geelong at the MCG.

Lyon, who will name captain Matthew Pavlich in his team on Thursday afternoon, was emphatic that Fremantle would not set out on Saturday night trying to control who it plays in week one of the finals.

"We'll play finals and we don't care where it is or when it is," Lyon said on Thursday morning.

"If you muck around with your form and you take your eye off the ball, you blink and you've lost to a bottom-of-the-ladder team.

"I can certainly see the headlines if we were to lose on the weekend.

"We're going to pick our best possible team ... and my expectation as senior coach is we compete exactly the same as we did against North Melbourne.

"I can't be any clearer on that and I've said that to the playing group."

Lyon said he had coached in final-round matches when one team had locked in a finals berth and focusing on potential outcomes was "fraught with danger".

More important, he said, was maintaining the form that has seen Fremantle win seven of its last eight matches.

"It takes a long time to get yourself into the form we're in and the fitness, so stay in the moment," he said.

"The Melbourne Football Club, there's really a great lesson, they beat Essendon earlier in the year.

"They (Melbourne) have improved and they'll come over with no burden of expectation and really have a free swing at it.

"My experience tells me that and I think my persona should tell you that we'll stay squarely on giving it our best effort."

Pavlich, who was a late withdrawal against North Melbourne with a groin complaint, trained on Tuesday and completed a light running and kicking session on Thursday morning before sitting out the main session.

Lyon said the Coleman Medal leader would be named on Thursday afternoon and was "really confident and determined to play".

He said a late decision would probably be made, "similar to last week".

As well as the groin issue, Pavlich has battled Achilles tendon tightness and a corked hamstring in recent weeks.

Lyon said the club had flown tendon experts in to help Pavlich and the club manage his injuries.

"It's been ongoing management ... they can just help step up what exercises he's done to strengthen," he said.

"That Achilles he's managed for the last five years and we have a strong plan in place with that. Then he had the adductor and corked hamstring. Most of that's settled down.

"Our management is always trying to improve with Matthew."

Ruckman Jon Griffin trained on Thursday while Kepler Bradley did most of his work away from the main group after suffering two head knocks against the Kangaroos.

He passed a concussion test earlier this week and will be available for selection.
