Wallis: We are not far off
Finding the right mix against Geelong was not made any easier for the Fremantle selection committee after some strong performances in the WAFL on the weekend.
Ryan Murphy, Adam Campbell, Chris Tarrant and Kepler Bradley will all come into the selection mix for Friday night’s game under lights against Geelong after they all fired for their respective WAFL clubs.
Chris delivered a solid return of 18 possessions, ten marks and two goals for East Perth and Ryan booted six goals for South Fremantle from the opposite end of the ground at Medibank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
"From all our feedback we've been given, both players have put their hand up along with Kepler Bradley," Wallis said.
Kepler, along with fellow West Perth team mate Adam, have also put their hands up for selection after solid performances in West Perth’s narrow defeat to Swan Districts, bagging nine majors between them.
"Unfortunately our forward line hasn't been functioning the way we want it to so there's at least three forwards who have put their hand up and one of them or even two of them will get a look in (against Geelong)," said Wallis.
“They’re in dominant form so it’ll be a massive challenge.”
With games against reigning premiers Geelong, Melbourne and the undefeated Bulldogs coming up in the next three rounds, Dean said the Fremantle players are certainly up for the challenges of the next month.
"If we get across the line on the weekend we kick-start our season," he said.
"We are not far off. We played a ripper half on the weekend so hopefully we can put four quarters together and upset Geelong and it might propel our 2008 season."
Friday night’s game against Geelong under lights is the annual Len Hall Game with the ANZAC Day ceremony beginning at 6.20pm.
This is the 13th Len Hall Game and the club is proud once more to recognise our Australian War Veterans, the men and women who served their country fearlessly and courageously and we remember the sacrifice of those who did not return from war.
The Len Hall Game is named in honour of WA’s last Gallipoli veteran Len Hall, 1897-1999, a member of the 10th Light Horse Regiment and one of the last men to leave Gallipoli. Len enlisted in August 1914 and saw service at Gallipoli and in the Middle East at Beersheeba. Len was born in May 1897 just one day after the very first VFL football match. In this year’s ceremony, we will pay special tribute to legacy of Len Hall as well as the 10th Light Horse Regiment.
The ceremony will also recognise and pay tribute to the discovery of the HMAS Sydney. World War II veteran Mr. Tom Fisher who served on the HMAS Sydney and was drafted off three weeks before the attack to join HMAS Hobart in the Mediterranean will also be honoured.
The club encourages all members and supporters to get to the ground in plenty of time to be part of the commemorative service which begins at 6:20pm sharp.
