Antoni Grover paid a visit to Newman in WA’s north-west on Tuesday 21 February to launch the 2012 Fremantle Dockers ‘Live the Dream’ program, proudly supported by Decmil Australia.

The Freo defender, along with 80 excited year 11 and 12 students from Newman Senior High School and representatives from Decmil Australia, was on hand to encourage nominations for this year’s program, which will be held from 18-22 July.

‘Live the Dream’ is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 young Australians to become immersed in the culture of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and “live the life” of an AFL player for five days.

The program offers participants a rare opportunity to develop skills and behaviours which can deliver long term benefits to the individual and their local community.

Grover said the program was a great initiative that would provide participants with an unforgettable experience.

“It’s about education and life skills,” he said.

Program activities include one-on-one interactive sessions with Fremantle Dockers player mentors, leadership development training, physical and skills sessions, conditioning and injury prevention sessions, nutrition, media training and player welfare information sessions and match day involvement for the Fremantle Dockers match against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday 22 July.

Fremantle Community Development Manager David Crute said the benefits of the program could be seen long after the Program had ended.

“The lessons learned during ‘Live the Dream’ help participants become leaders within their own communities,” he said.

“Everyone has a lot of fun but we also work hard in developing participants’ skills through program objectives including teamwork and leadership as well as problem solving in pressure situations.

“The participants are encouraged to go outside of their comfort zones and what we’ve seen from previous years of ‘Live the Dream’ is that the lessons learned are taken back into their clubs, classrooms and communities.”

Thanks to Decmil Australia, the cost of the program for the 16 participants is free, including meals, accommodation and apparel for the five day program.

Nominations are now open and information can be found on either the Decmil Australia website or at www.fremantlefc.com.au/livethedream

Entrants are urged to take the time to address the selection criteria for the best chance of success.
