Cincinnati Dockers Win USAFL Division 4 National Championship
A great result for Freo's partner club
Cincinnati went undefeated throughout the tournament, winning all four of its matches to take home the trophy.
In its opening match, Cincinnati defeated the Las Vegas Gamblers easily, thanks in part to a strong first-half wind, by a score of 91-6.
Later that day, Cincinnati overcame the odds to defeat the Golden Gate/Los Angeles Roos 20-8.
These two victories earned the team the No.2 seeding for the semi-finals, where it faced the Denver Bulldogs. This was an even, tough-fought battle that saw the Cinci Dockers come out victorious 21-11.
This set up the USAFL Division 4 Grand Final showdown against the Fort Lauerdale Fighting Squids. This match went back-and-forth, and was easily Cincinnati’s toughest match all weekend.
In the end, the Cincinnati Dockers came through in a tight contest, winning 26-20.
This USAFL National Championship is Cincinnati’s third in the past four years, and its fifth championship overall.
As a reminder, the USAFL announced that Mason, Ohio will host the 2012 USAFL National Championship Tournament. This tournament is the largest of its kind in the world, featuring over 1000 athletes competing for over 40 teams from all across the USA and Canada.
