Michael Barlow believes new Fremantle recruit Danyle Pearce can help the side improve in the 2013 season.

The former Port Adelaide midfielder joined Fremantle under the AFL’s new free agency system at the end of 2012.

Barlow said the 26-year-old had been a good influence on the group and someone that fit Freo’s model.

“We identified that we needed to improve our outside speed and penetration with good foot skills, and Danyle brings that,” he said.

“The way he’s been invited into the group and the way he’s expressed himself, both on and off the track, has been exemplary.”

Barlow said Pearce had always been targeted as a player Freo had to shut down in matches against the Power in the past.

“Danyle’s someone we identified as needing to limit his influence if we wanted to win the match,” he said.

“That speaks volumes of his ability.

“We’re really happy to have him on board at Freo and really looking forward to seeing what he has to offer in the NAB Cup and beyond.”
