Lou’s looking forward to a Freo crowd
Lou Tamasiello is flying to Perth for the game this Saturday night against Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium and is looking forward to sitting in a stadium of Freo fans
After ten years of being a Freo member in Victoria he’s generally sitting in a crowd of rival supporters.
But Lou is flying to Perth for the game this Saturday night against Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium and is looking forward to sitting in a stadium of Freo fans.
He will be one of 19 Freo members recognised as part of member recognition round this weekend.
Lou is brining his wife Jean over with him and said it will be a great experience for her.
“We’re usually the odd ones out,” he said.
“There aren’t many Freo supporters at the games we go to in Melbourne, so it will be good for Jean to be in the majority for once.”
A Victorian through and through, Lou’s decision to become a Freo member was based on family.
“I signed my son Ben up as a founding member in 1994, he was born that year so I thought it worked well,” he said.
“My parents also migrated from Italy and their first port of call in Australia was Fremantle.”
Lou said his footy experience this year had been different compared to previous ones.
“For us it’s just been a change in mindset,” he said.
“Here in Melbourne we go to games believing we can win, especially at the MCG.”
This Saturday night the team will run out onto Patersons Stadium through a guard of honour consisting of 19 members – each representing one year of the club’s existence in the AFL.
Lou will represent 10-year members and has already sorted what he is going to wear.
“I’ve got Ben’s white training jumper, so I’ll bring that over with me and wear it on the night,” he said.
“I think it’s a great honour to be picked out of all those 10-year members to stand on the ground before a game.
“I see it as a great privilege.”
