Nat Fyfe says Fremantle is peaking on its understanding of Ross Lyon’s intricate game plan.

The former St Kilda senior coach took over the side two years ago, and there were some obvious growing pains early in the 2012 season.

But after almost two complete seasons under Lyon, Fyfe told Channel 7 the players were now confident in executing their coach’s scheme.
“We’ve been building that for the past 18 months with Ross,” he said.

“It’s been getting better and better as we’ve played in big games, and we know in finals footy, that’s what’s required, contested ball, the pressure, the tackling, that’s what’s going to get it done, and we really brought that to life on the weekend.”

Fyfe admitted it was great to have a home preliminary final on Saturday week, but he said every player had to stay focused on the task.

“There’s great excitement and enthusiasm, and there should be, but as players, we just focus on our role and bring great effort,” he said.

“I think finals footy, as Joel Selwood alluded to, is who can bring the intensity for the longest.

“We were able to do that on the weekend, and that’s what we have to do next weekend when we play.”
