Lloyd shared his WAFL notes on all Freo's rucks and forwards:

Josh Simpson (EF) 16 disposals (9 kicks, 7 handballs)
Josh played as a high forward, he used his run well in the second quarter to break the space to mark and used it well inside the 50. He just needs to do it more often throughout the game. He started to work into the game during the second half by competing more at ground level. One of Josh’s strengths will be his front and square ball gets, and he had a couple of those during the game.

Max Duffy (EF) 13 disposals (11 kicks, 2 handballs) 5 marks, 2 goals
Max started extremely well collecting five possessions in a short space of time and really linked up between the arcs with creative use and hard release run. Whilst he had an energetic start, the deeper Max played the less impact he had on the game. We are looking at Max to play up and around the contest where he is able to use his strength and his ability to run and carry.

Craig Moller (PT) 9 disposals (2 kicks, 7 handballs)
Craig played a mix of ruck and key forward, having most of his impact when he played in the ruck. Craig has shown that he is very team orientated and works hard to get back and help out in defence. He works very hard at ground level and won a number of ground balls and used clean quick hands to create transitional run. During the third quarter we were pleased to see he positioned well down the line and took a strong mark.

Jack Hannath (PT) 13 disposals (9 kicks, 4 handballs) 4 marks, 2 goals

Jack played 50/50 ruck and forward. He took some strong contested marks and on several instances followed up well on ground level. In regards to his ground position Jack always gets to big man positions, particularly for contested marks. Jack kicked a great set shot goal from outside 50.

Viv Michie (PT) 20 disposals (12 kicks, 8 handballs) 4 marks, 1 goal

Viv played inside-mid against some quality opposition WAFL mids. Viv had some effective center square bounce clearances, was creative at times with his handball and we are finding Viv is working very hard on his game to maintain a consistent effort over four quarters.

Zac Clarke (PT) 9 disposals (6 kicks, 3 handballs) 4 marks, 30 hit-outs

Zac played ruck and forward. Zac’s first half was below his own standard but he started to get going in the second half where his effort improved with greater intensity and follow up, particularly at ruck contests. Zac’s major focus is using his athletic capabilities to provide options around the ground.

Tanner Smith (PT) 9 disposals (3 kicks, 6 handballs)
Tanner played forward opposed to some good defenders in Dodd, Brown and Sutcliffe. Whilst he didn’t attract a lot of the football, he was running into some good positions. Over a period of time it’s just a matter of him connecting with the midfielders and making sure they lower their eyes because he is getting into some good hit up lead positions. He showed several strong aerial contests.

Alex Howson (EF) Reserves 4 disposals (3 kicks, 1 handball)
Alex played as the deeper forward in the first half where he didn’t have a great deal of impact, so he was moved to a key defender position in the second half. He showed patches were he checked the opposition well and managed to force his opponent wide. The major focus for Alex is around his contested ball and physicality, which will build throughout the season.

Matt Taberner (PT) Reserves 6 disposals (4 kicks, 2 handballs). 1 goal
Matt played as a key forward all day and is building his game. He took a strong contested mark from a long down-the-line kick. In the last quarter he competed positively to win a ground ball, work his way out of congestion and snap a goal on his left. Matt needs to build on his defensive pressure and that will improve his game.
