WAFL Watch Round 3 - Crozier bulks up
Hayden Crozier’s four goal performance in Peel’s loss to East Fremantle last Saturday won him the WAFL player of the week
Assistant and senior development coach Simon Lloyd said that putting on weight has been the main focus for Crozier.
“He has put on over eight kilos going into his second season and that has shown. He has been really diligent and focused in the weights room,” Lloyd said.
Crozier kicked four goals for Peel in their loss last Saturday to East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
“The thing that we know about Hayden is that he is highly skilled and doesn’t need much space to do some damage,” Lloyd said.
Fourteen Fremantle listed players played in the Thunder– Sharks clash last Saturday and Lloyd said the partnership between Peel and Fremantle was coming together.
“It’s only going to build week by week. It’s really good to go to a WAFL game and see passages of play where a large number of our listed players are involved and link up together,” he said.
Lloyd shared his WAFL notes on all Freo's mids:
Hayden Crozier (PT) 16 disposals (12 kicks, 4 handballs) 5 marks, 4 goals
Hayden played with a lot of energy and zip throughout the game on the wing and across half forward. He found a lot of space through smart, hard run and looked very dangerous whenever he had the ball in his hands. He finished with four goals one. He was very dangerous when the ball was in his vicinity.
Sam Menegola (EF) 16 disposals (10 kicks, 6 handballs)
Sam showed some really strong powerful run from contest to contest in the first half. We were pleased with Sam’s physicality around congestion and that’s something Sam is continuing to build. He suffered a cork in his calf early but to his credit was able to push through the game. We are very pleased with Sam’s progress.
Lachie Neale (SD) 15 disposals (9 kicks, 6 handballs) 6 marks
Lachie played as an inside mid and high forward. He showed effective use by foot and constantly referenced his opponent showing good awareness defensively and was able to cover the most dangerous player.
Tom Sheridan (PT) 27 disposals (15 kicks, 12 handballs), 6 marks, 1 goal
Tom played on the wing and had a stint forward in what Ash Prescott described as a ‘blue collar effort’. He showed good leadership in organising players around stoppages and won the ball in tight positions and was able to give first hands and quick kicks. Overall Tom ran over 15kms and constantly worked back to provide options out of defence. We were pleased with Tom’s performance, it was a positive game from Tom ,who is going well.
Jesse Crichton (PT)
Jesse worked himself into the game playing as a running back in the first quarter and then as an inside mid for the rest of the game. A positive aspect of Jesse’s game on the weekend was his ball use. He has now started to use his run and kick more coming out of defence. He was also influential as an inside midfielder.
