Neale's finding his way
Lachie Neale is starting to feel like he belongs at the elite level.
After debuting in round four last year, the developing midfielder finished up with twelve senior games under his belt for season 2012.
This year was a slower start for Neale.
He played both round four and five before an ankle injury forced him out of the team.
Since returning to the team in round 17, he hasn’t missed a game and his performances have earned the praise of senior coach Ross Lyon.
“Every game I am starting to get more confident, I’m trying to do my role for the team,” Neale said.
“That’s with ground balls, tackles and winning inside ball.
“I’ve been working on running both ways.
“Last year my spread wasn’t where it needed to be so spreading hard defensively and offensively has been massive for me.”
Neale has averaged 26 disposals per game over his past six games.
He was the leading possession getter in the Port match last Saturday night at Patersons Stadium, with 28 disposals and two goals.
But he was first to admit it was a well-rounded team effort that got Freo the win.
“We knew Port were in pretty good form, they’re in the top eight at the moment, I thought we came here and got the job done,” Neale said.
“Keeping them to a goal at half time was a massive part of that, we went on from there, it was another good effort from the boys.
“The hard work from the team got me a few goals, which is nice.”
He hasn’t played in a final, but the 21-year-old wasn’t looking too far ahead.
“We will recover, hit the track next week and prepare for St Kilda,” he said.
“Hopefully I can keep delivering, it’s just about playing consistent football and keeping my spot in the side.”
