Justin Longmuir is excited that football games in WA are on the cusp of being back to normal, with the State Government announcing on Monday that up to 30,000 fans will be permitted at games at Optus Stadium from this weekend.
The government also unveiled a scenario where capacity crowds of up to 60,000 may be permitted from next month.
All that’s needed is for the WA teams to get back to their home state.
“Definitely good news for our fans and our footy club,” Longmuir told AFL 360.
“Now we’ve just got to make sure we can get back there and organise some games.
“There’s no teams over there at the moment. We’ll work our way through that and it’s definitely a great sign for WA footy.
“We are expecting some news pretty soon, in the next few days, which will give us some clarity around our situation.
“Really, that’s all we’re after, a little bit of clarity so we can do some planning, let our families know and keep those lines of communication open.”
While Fremantle forward Jesse Hogan had a quiet return after a year out of the game due to injury and a mental health break, Longmuir said the best sign was Hogan’s recovery from the clash.
Hogan and Fremantle have a six-day break to prepare for Saturday’s clash against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.
“(Jesse) pulled up really well and that’s the best news about it,” Longmuir said.
“He was a bit rusty in the conditions and he’ll improve on what he did.
“His competitiveness really stood out, he works really hard on the field.
“The goals and marks and all that sort of stuff will come with the more footy he plays. It’s good news that he pulled up, we’ve got a short six-day break, so that’s positive news so far.”
