Bernadette Lacy got a little bit more than she had hoped for when she called the Fremantle Dockers Membership department recently to renew her seats for the 2014 season.

The John Curtin School of the Arts teacher was also informed that she had won the major prize in this year’s Fremantle Dockers Community Goals Raffle – a brand new DVG Hyundai i45 worth $30,000, a Chivers Marine Bull Shark 156 Fishing Boat worth $30,000 or $25,000 cash.

A Freo member since 1996 and a Siren, Bernadette had received a couple of missed calls and a message from the Freo membership team.

“Because I hadn’t renewed my membership yet, I assumed it was about that, so I called up the club,” she said.

When she was told she’d won the raffle, Bernadette replied: ‘what raffle?’!

“When I receive my raffle book every year, I fill it out and send it off, so I’d totally forgotten about it,” she said.

“It was a wonderful, out of the blue, surprise.”

Taking the advice of her school’s principal, who is a maths teacher, Bernadette decided to take the money.

“I’m currently renting, so I think I might put it towards buying a property in Fremantle,” she said.

The second prize in the Community Goals Raffle, which was a 2014 Grand Final Package for two, including flights and accommodation, went to Malcolm Giles of Gosnells, a member since 2004.

All funds raised from the 2013 Fremantle Dockers Community Goals Raffle will assist with the funding of Community Goals. Your help in purchasing tickets will directly assist the club’s efforts to promote grass roots football and healthy lifestyles amongst children across Western Australia.

Congratulations to both Bernadette and Malcolm, and thank you to everyone who participated in the 2013 Community Goals Raffle.
