Eight games undefeated, Barlow’s jaw, the Patersons cat, Ross Lyon’s Fremantle, Fyfe’s stunner and Geelong blows a big lead
Michael Barlow has undergone a minor procedure on his jaw as a result of a clash in a marking contest in yesterday’s win . He has not been ruled out of Saturday’s match against Geelong.
Eight undefeated
Freo’s win made it eight games in a row without defeat since a round 4 loss to Hawthorn. The club’s winning streak record is nine games, which happened in the second half of the 2006 season – a year in which the club made the preliminary final.
The Patersons Cat
Fremantle faces the Cats next Saturday night under lights in Geelong. But it seems one cat couldn’t wait to get on the field with Ross Lyon’s side . After a short stint on the ground, the feline invader made a hasty exit through the interchange gates. For those of you wondering what happened to the kitten, member Carolyn and her family have taken it to the local Cat Haven to be checked out and have put their names down to adopt her.
The Ross Lyon Fremantle
An interesting statistic was mentioned during the telecast on Sunday, which highlighted the transformation this club has made under Lyon’s regime. Before Ross, Freo had conceded less than 49 points in a match on three occasions from 1995 to 2011. Since Lyon took over, the club has done it in nine out of 36 games.
In case you didn’t know, Fyfe can play
What a magnificent performance from Nat Fyfe on Sunday . He did it all, winning contested possessions all over the ground, taking screamers and kicking goals. His efforts were crucial given Freo’s midfield maestro David Mundy was a late withdrawal.
Geelong leads comfortably…
During Ross Lyon’s media conference, the senior coach made reference to next week’s opponents Geelong and their comfortable lead over Brisbane in a match that was being played at the Gabba. The Cats were leading easily, by as much as 52 points, but an incredible Lions’ comeback and a goal after the siren by 200-gamer Ashley McGrath saw Michael Voss’ side emerge victorious. That result, coupled with Sydney’s loss to Port on Saturday, left Freo just two points adrift of second placed Geelong, who it meets this Saturday night at the Cattery.
