The Herald Sun’s chief football writer Mark Robinson has labelled Ross Lyon the best coach in the AFL following Fremantle’s win over Collingwood on Saturday night.

Robinson said Lyon proved yet again how good he was by guiding Freo to victory without a large group of his leaders.

“He kept it simple. Head over the ball, he said. Win clearances, he said. And his gamble of Zac Dawson in the ruck worked a treat,” wrote Robinson about Lyon in his weekly article The Tackle.

“Is he the best coach in the competition? Does he get the best out of his players? Yes and Yes.”

Robinson picked his All Australian side after seven rounds of action and included Michael Walters in the forward pocket, who he said had picked himself. He also had Luke McPharlin at centre-half-back.

The Herald Sun journo also mentioned the efforts of Freo’s half-back flankers Garrick Ibbotson and Paul Duffield, who have been terrific in recent weeks.

“(Ibbotson) has returned for the past three games after injuring an ankle in the pre-season and has become a key member of the side,” Robinson said.

“With he and Duffield coming off the back flanks, the Dockers have two of the most underrated players in the competition.”
