The Purple Army will be out, but perhaps not in force, when Fremantle take on Port Adelaide on Sunday at Metricon Stadium.

The game will be Fremantle’s first in 2020 played in front of a crowd, which will be capped by the Queensland Government’s Covid-19 restrictions.

As the clash is a Freo ‘home’ game, Fremantle’s Queensland members will be the first to see their team in action this season.

It will also be Longmuir’s first AFL game as senior coach with Freo fans present.

“It’s good considering it’s a home game for us this week,” Longmuir said.

“I think the club’s put out a call to all of our Queensland based-members to see how many of those want to get along to the game.

“It would be nice to see some people there.”

Longmuir said it was an exciting step for the AFL and for the Australian community. 

“I think with crowds being allowed in across the country, it shows that we’re heading in the right direction,” Longmuir said.

“All of the good work people are putting in to be able to isolate and social distance is really going to pay off in the short term.”

With a small crowd expected at Metricon Stadium, one reporter asked Longmuir if he thinks the players would be able to hear any ‘feedback’ from the fans more clearly.

“They’re better off hearing that feedback (from the fans) than from me I suppose,” Longmuir joked in reply.
