Freo star Matt de Boer is encouraging prospective junior footballers to sign up with their local club at this Sunday’s registration day around WA.

The hard-at-it defensive midfielder played his junior football at Swanbourne Tigers Junior Football Club, which de Boer said were some of the best memories of his life.

“I had so much fun learning the game and making new friends,” he said.

“I’d recommend parents to take their children down to their local club this Sunday and sign up.”

Fremantle Dockers Community Goals manager Wade Spilcker said junior football clubs provide a wonderful environment for both boys and girls to learn the skills of Australian Football in a safe and fun setting.

“NAB AFL Auskick has been Australia’s leading junior sports program for many years and is now being replicated by numerous other sports who are trying to recreate what AFL does so well in promoting and teaching the game to our next generation,” he said.

“Not only are junior footballers learning skills of the game, they are getting numerous health and social benefits that come with being part of well organised team sport.”
