Fremantle Victorian cheer squad member Dennis Hambling is set to part with his 32-year-old beard during half time of Friday night’s season opener against Collingwood at Etihad Stadium.

The 65-year-old, who is the eldest of three generations of Victorian-based Freo fans, agreed to the shave after his son Mark raised $1000 for the World’s Greatest Shave.

Mark's four-year-old son Mason has battled Burkitt’s leukaemia since last year and is now in remission.

“Mason is now doing fantastic, he’s full of energy and has no stop button,” Mark says.

“Earlier this month we went to Erskine Falls near Torquay and he was able to walk all 560 steps, which to us is amazing considering 12 months ago he couldn’t get out of bed without crying.”

The shave will take place on the concourse outside Etihad Stadium.

“It’s been great that we could get the $1,000 so Mason’s grandad could shave his beard,” Mark said.

The World’s Greatest Shave, which raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation, runs from 13-16 March.

A public shave will take place on Friday morning at Forrest Place in Perth.

There will be a hairdressing team on stand by from 11.00am to 1.00pm to shave and colour your hair.

For those who have signed up this year there is no charge on the day.

If you haven’t already registered there is a charge of $20 to shave and $5 to colour.
