WAFL Watch: Round 1 - Forwards
Find out how Freo's players fared in the recent round of WAFL action
Max had a solid off season in regards to his running and building his conditioning and strength base and we have seen some real improvements from him. He looked dangerous during forward 50 stoppages where he was always on the move and surging through the contest, with one resulting in a clever goal. He put on some good pressure as a small forward and ran hard from contest to contest. Unfortunately Max dislocated his shoulder in the second quarter and took no further part in the game.
Hayden Crozier 18 disposals (9 kicks, 9 handballs) 4 tackles
Hayden played as high forward and had a strong impact around stoppages with his pressure . He worked hard to keep the ball inside 50 with chasing and spoils. He had some good passages of offensive running, getting in front and square. Hayden had a solid contribution on the day.
Josh Simpson 25 disposals (14 kicks, 11 handballs) 4 marks
Josh played as a high forward and in the midfield in what was his best WAFL performance to date. That was based on his work rate, putting on a lot of pressure in regards to chasing, tackling, smothering and spoiling. He came with a strong mindset to play and ended up having six clearances and making a solid contribution.
Michael Apeness 8 disposals (2 kicks, 6 handballs)
Michael played as a tall forward in his first league game for Peel Thunder. He worked himself into the game with a strong second half. He showed he was strong in the marking contest, particularly with his attack on the contest in the air. He got his hands to a number of high balls, showed some strong physicality and we were really pleased with his effort in regards to his chase and tackle pressure.
