Mundy glad to have AFL’s ‘best ruckman’ on his side
Aaron Sandilands has enjoyed a super pre-season, and it’s showing according to his teammates
The star midfielder was referring to Aaron Sandilands, who has enjoyed a super pre-season.
The three-time All Australian ruckman monstered the Western Bulldogs in the second NAB Challenge game, collecting 16 disposals and 47 hitouts against one of 2013’s best big men, Will Minson.
Mundy has also been excellent in the pre-season, but he directed the praise towards his on-ball teammates and Sandilands.
“Aaron is the best ruckman in the competition when he’s up and about, healthy and on the park,” Mundy said.
“To have him out in training for the whole pre-season has been great and his early form has reflected that.
“It’s obviously beneficial for the midfield when he’s so dominant. Hopefully, Aaron has another big year.”
Freo face West Coast in a trial match at Patersons Stadium on Thursday night.
The Eagles won the NAB Challenge encounter between the sides by 84 points.
Mundy said Freo’s aim was to continue its improvement with an eye to Collingwood at Etihad Stadium in round 1 of the season proper.
“All of our focus has been on round 1 and preparing properly for that,” he said.
“It’s about getting everyone on the same page and getting everyone to understand what it takes to be a successful unit.
“In the first West Coast game, we were a long way off, but we had a heavy review, so we’re hoping to continue improving leading into round 1.”
