Mundy to let football do the talking
Ahead of his 200th, David Mundy reveals some of the factors he’s weighing up in his contract negotiation.
Originally from Victoria, he was drafted by Freo as a full-back in 2003 before making his early mark as a running half-back.
But a move to the midfield in 2009 has seen him evolve into one of the best on-ballers in the AFL.
Ahead of his 200th game, Mundy labelled football and family as the crucial factors he was weighing up.
He said Freo offered positives for both.
“I got my chance at Fremantle is the football side of it, and my wife is a West Australian, that’s the family side of it,” he said.
“I’m comfortable with where it’s at and I’m confident that, in time, a resolution will come.
“I’m happy for my football to do most of the talking at the moment.”
The 28-year-old said he was looking forward to Saturday’s Carlton Draught Derby and the double century milestone, even if it signalled he was now one of the ‘old boys’.
“I’m very proud to have played 200 AFL games,” he said.
“It’s taken a long time to get here, as it always does, but it’s something that will hit home and I’ll be able to reflect on once I’ve been out of football for a little while.”
