‘Overwhelmed’ Pavlich humbled by 300th Story
A moving pre-match presentation by Shaun McManus was among the humbling experiences for Matthew Pavlich in his milestone game

The Fremantle captain was carried off the ground a winner after Freo defeated Geelong by 32 points at Patersons Stadium.
He admitted after the match he had been blown away by the attention he had received.
“I’m overwhelmed, the whole week was overwhelming,” Pavlich said.
“The club’s support and the fans’, and the industry in general, the amount of messages of support I got, I was seriously overwhelmed throughout the whole week and a little bit embarrassed by the attention.”
Pavlich got his milestone game off to a perfect start, marking and goaling within the first 30 seconds.

Soon after he’d registered his second for the game and 600th career goal – but he wasn’t aware he’d reached that milestone.
“I actually totally forgot about it, but I’m glad I got it out of the way early,” he said.
Before the game, an emotional presentation in the change rooms saw Pavlich’s family, friends and teammates witness club legend Shaun McManus hand the Freo skipper his match jumper.
The normally ice-cool Pavlich couldn’t help but be moved by McManus’s words.
“I hardly ever get emotional, but Shauny Mac spoke so well and having mum and dad, my sister, (wife) Lauren and (daughter) Harper and Lauren’s family, and some good mates there as well, it actually really moved me,” he said.
Pavlich also addressed all those present, and he said he’d tried to deflect the attention away from himself.
“I said, like it or not, mum and dad and Lauren and Harper and 'Shauny Mac' can’t help us, we’ve go to go out there and play in a really desperate and uncompromising manner, and the boys did that for us,” he said.
“The manner in which we played tonight honoured the occasion, and I’m so pleased that we’re now 5-4.”
