Fremantle have signed forward Poppy Stockwell for the 2025 NAB AFLW Season as the replacement player for inaugural Freo Docker Ebony Antonio, following Antonio’s pregnancy announcement.
Hailing from South Fremantle Football Club, Stockwell had a stand-out 2024 WAFLW Season and was named the Club’s Fairest and Best winner as well as the Club’s Leading Goalkicker, booting 20 goals across 13 games.
A talented cross-coder to cricket as a wicketkeeper/batter, Stockwell also made her Women’s National Cricket League debut at 19 years of age in 2022, until deciding to focus her energy solely on football in 2024.
The 21-year-old was one of only two mature age prospects who received an AFLW Draft Combine invite last year, and nominated for the 2024 AFLW Draft, but unfortunately her name was not called out.
AFLW List Manager Darryn Fry said the Club was pleased to sign Stockwell after keeping a close eye on her following last year’s AFLW Draft.
“We are delighted to bring Poppy into our program and club,” Fry said.
“Poppy is a talented dual-sport athlete, having played cricket for Western Australia as well.
“After returning to football and missing out on the draft in 2024, Poppy has been working hard on her game which has seen her become one of the top players in the WAFLW so far in season 2025.”
Fry touched on Stockwell’s strengths that he anticipates will complement Fremantle’s forward line.
“Poppy is a dynamic small forward, who has a strong aerial game and has had significant scoreboard impact too,” Fry said
“We can’t wait to get Poppy started with our AFLW program and are excited to see what she can achieve this season.”
Stockwell will commence non-compulsory Pro-Block training with Fremantle’s squad this week.
