Live the Dream, which is proudly supported by Decmil is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 young Australians to become immersed in the culture of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and ‘live the life’ of an AFL player for five days.
Live the Dream offers participants a rare opportunity to develop skills and behaviours, which can deliver long-term benefits to the individual and their local community.
The program will include a tour of Fremantle headquarters and Patersons Stadium, an boot camp session at the Irwin Army Barracks located in Karrakatta as well as leadership and health and well being training sessions.
The Live the Dream program commences on Friday 11 July with Fremantle players Paul Duffield, Tommy Sheridan, Hayden Crozier, Stephen Hill, Chris Mayne, Nick Suban, Zac Clarke and Colin Sylvia as the participant’s mentors.
Meet 16-year-old Lloyd Winmar-Donaldson from the Goldfields.
Lloyd plays football for Mines Rovers and attends Eastern Goldfields College.
He is looking forward to Live the Dream to help build his confidence and leadership skills.
“Leadership to me is setting a good example, having a good sense of values and rules and striving to better myself and others around me,” he said.
Lloyd was also eager to get a taste of the requirements of elite level football.
“Being in Kalgoorlie, you sometimes don’t realise what it takes to be successful at an elite level as we don’t have the same level of competition,” he said.
“This program will introduce me to that.”
Clontarf Goldfields Academy director Brett Thompson said all those around Lloyd had been impressed greatly by him.
“Lloyd’s teachers have been taken by his enthusiasm, acceptance of responsibility and his desire to meet the demands of new situations,” he said.
“Being exposed to an elite organisation like the Fremantle Dockers will give Lloyd the experience necessary to compete at that level.
“It will also give him the opportunity to really back himself.”
