It takes some time to adapt to the speed and intensity of AFL football, but Ed Langdon says he’s starting to find his feet after playing a string of games at the top level.
“Nobody goes into the AFL and find’s their feet straight away, at least very few do,” he said
“You get a feel for the speed of the game, and the intensity, and 10 games in, I’m starting to understand what it’s about.”
Langdon, who debuted against Melbourne last year, played his first game of the season against Gold Coast in round two, collecting 13 possessions and laying three tackles, and followed up by playing West Coast in the first Carlton Draught Derby of the season.
He said the team was focused on getting a quick start to the game, and imposing themselves on the opposition.
“The intensity of the game is obviously very high from the start,” he said.
“Everyone is up and about, and it’s always good, so hopefully we can get out there and get some bodies flying early.”
Recruited for his speed and pressure, Langdon has started seeing plenty of the football, increasing his average disposals from 11 per game in his first three matches of the season, to more than 22 touches in his past three.
Langdon, who had 29 disposals against Sydney on Sunday, says the next step is to improve his skills with the ball.
“My skills are the biggest thing I’m working on at the moment, because with my run and carry, I could be more effective if I start using my skills to the best of my ability,” he said.
“I’ve been doing a lot of kicking work and a lot of handballing work to maximise every disposal I get.”
