In the face of the coronavirus crisis, the AFLW players' preferred structure for the remainder of the season is an eight-team, three-week finals series.
The players were surveyed by the AFLPA on Monday night, and their favoured option would see the top four in each conference play across three weeks.
The existing finals structure currently sees the top three in each conference play off in finals, with the first-place side in each pool automatically qualifying for the preliminary final.
This view has been communicated to the AFL from the AFLPA, as debate continues as to the best course of action in the fast-changing environment.
As it stands, there are still two home-and-away rounds fixtured over the next two weeks before finals are reached, but the AFL is yet to confirm whether this weekend's matches will go ahead.
"AFLW and AFL players want to play, they know how much people love and need football, and players feel a deep sense of responsibility to deliver the game for the wider industry and fans," an email from the AFLPA to the AFLW players read.
"Players also feel a strong moral obligation to play their part in limiting the spread of this virus in the broader community.
"The AFLW players' favoured position for the season structure is to progress with an eight-team, three-week finals series featuring the top four teams from each conference."
If the finals were to proceed in this manner, North Melbourne, GWS, Brisbane and Gold Coast would qualify from Conference A, with Conference B sides Fremantle, Carlton, Melbourne and Collingwood also featuring.
