Fremantle leader Reece Conca feels his teammates are unifying as they take drastic measures to stay fit and healthy for the potential start of the 2020 season.
As Fremantle looks to minimise the effects of the Covid-19 crisis on the club, players have gone into self-isolation, limiting contact with those outside of teammates, necessary club staff and immediate family.
The plan is to be fit and firing for round one against Essendon this Saturday at Marvel Stadium, should the game go ahead.
“We’re just trying to isolate ourselves as much as we can when we’re away from the club,” Conca said.
“Whether that be getting partners to stay at home and work from home, or removing yourself from family activities and friend’s activities.
“I’m not going to go to family dinners and stuff like that, which as Italians is a bit confronting!
“Mum won’t like me for that, but these are the measures that we’re taking.
“We’re making sure we’re washing hands as much as we can. It’s pretty similar to the messages to out in the general public but we’re just trying to be as strict as we can.”
Conca said the measures were also bringing the players together.
“I think the cultural side of the club is really kicking into gear now,” Conca said.
“We’ve got a really young unified group and we’re trying to spend as much time as we can together and build on our relationships.
“We’re still training really hard and helping each other through this tough time. That’s been really important and I think we’re doing a really good job of that.”
